Breakfast

On October 19th again, he had a filling English breakfast.
Baked beans, toasted bread with butter and honey, yogurt, pancakes and croissants were her choices.
It was his curiosity to feel and know why his Indian wife loved an English breakfast that she would not mind eating everyday.
He had a cup of delicious chocolate milkshake, her favourite way of finishing off the breakfast.
And then he smiled at the opposite empty seat, like the previous October 19th, wishing she was alive to enjoy it on his birthday.

Lipstick paradox

There used to be an aging receptionist who sported myriad colours of lipstick on different days matching her dress, nails or her vanity bag.
It used to be a spectacle to watch how she would splash different colours on her body and make a fashion statement everyday.
One day, surprised to see her with eye make-up only and no lipstick, I registered it to myself.
She felt so conscious about it that she walked across to me and told me that her lips had an allergy to lipstick colours and she can no more wear them.
I smiled at life's irony and said, "When you want to look good, life won't let you."

Bubbles

The iridescent bubbles played games with the street light by the window showing all the colours at once on the same film.
They emanated from the bubble maker in Kavya's restless hands.
It was 2 o clock in the morning, it was another sleepless night as a mother.
The previous day Kavya's daughter had spoken her first word, calling her mother "Amma!" - the happiness of being recognized as a mother was overwhelming!
But, as a daughter, she could not stop wondering how her own mother felt tonight after disowning her 26 years ago, merely because she was born as a girl.

Pointless

She just ran from one stage of life to another - from being a girl; to a woman; to a wife; to a mother; to a mother-in-law; to an aged dying person.
Life just moved on and she swam with the flow without questioning, "What is the point?"
She had lost her husband in her early years, she was the only bread winner for her growing children, she struggled to give them a life that she could not make, she married them off only to put up with a difficult daughter-in-law and grand children.
Finally she died today morning just throwing away all those scorching years for a toss.
When I saw her for the last time, dead and crumpled in white sheets, I asked myself " What is the point?"

Open

She had left the door open.
Her grief would be avenged by the distraught look on his face - her husband who had blatantly tortured her and her children for his own desires and financial avarice for years.
Her children were dangling breathless by the noose, she had tied herself.
She remembered for one last time how they were once happily married with children, until she stopped believing that there was such a thing called 'happily ever afters'.
She fastened the noose and in a moment she left, to never return.

Villainous

He gave her a villainous look as she tried to wriggle free. She was puny and could not muster her strength against his cavernous body. She was returning to her home back from work, like any other day. Conversing on a call, she had caught a nearby taxi, without noticing the lustful whistles of the driver. As he pulled over the vehicle in a deserted road, and caught hold of her, she jabbed his stomach with a knife before she was a victim.

Being a mommy!

It was bedtime again. As the dusk melted into the darkness of night, she tried to rest. The hope of a peaceful, quieter next day lingered as she made her bed. She crashed down as her sinews and bones cracked relieving the day's strain. Not knowing all the while that plans change, just then she heard her little one wake up and cry!

Abandon

Every relationship around you is always abandoned after sometime. Nothing is forever, Sweetie. You either compromise or win in a relationship. It is a dynamic state.

These were her last words of consolation to her daughter as she bereaved her of a wonderful mother.

Trust

A: Do you trust me?
B: Firstly answer me, do you trust your own decision? Do you trust yourself?
A: No, I'm never always sure about my decision and myself. But, that is not the question.
B: I don't know, maybe if you were confident I would have trusted you.
A: It hurts to know that there was never trust in our relationship.

Irritation

The host asked the boy, " What is the most unforgettable moment of your life?".
The boy was physically handicapped with an impaired ability to speak.
But his lack of physical strength was compensated by his intelligence.
He had won in his professional degree as a gold medalist and was being interviewed by a news channel.
He slurred in reply, "When my mother gave up on me saying you are just another irritation to the world and walked away."

Flight

After a few days, doing all her household chores herself, she was missing her mother. She was in an alien land, leaving behind all her old connections. 'Freedom', she thought when she had arrived, 'from old memories, old culture, old societal pressure'. Here, she thought she could do anything, undo her wings and fly, experiencing gusts of sea-wind and basking in sunshine. But, it was a different life altogether, she had freedom but no time.

Envy

She had sabotaged  her friendship with everyone that she was envious about. A topper in her class, a lady with a handsome man, an opera-singer, a rich father's daughter. All of them were her close friends, all of them were her enemies, simply because they provoked her envy. She was none of them, and today too, she is none of them. The only difference was she was no more envious of them because she had won the inner battle.

Pages

Life is already complicated. I choose not to see you. I choose to live in denial, even if it means that I have to live with many ordeals imposed on me by the society. I didn't want to read those pages you wrote in your diary.

Because ignorance is bliss.

Marriage

She had waited for it all her life, to see this man being hers for the rest of her life. She had weaved too many dreams around her, looking at other married couples. Dreams too good to be true. After 527 days of marriage, he said, "I don't want this relationship". The same day a part of her died and whatever remained was torn into pieces.
